The best mobile photo editing app money can’t buy (it’s free)

Everyone knows… or at least is aware of Photoshop as the world’s leading photo editing software, so much so it’s become an adjective, as in she looks so photoshopped.

Ever wish you could get some/most of that power in an app for your phone? I mean that’s where most of our photos live these days so it only makes sense that we would be able to make adjustments to those images without having to round trip them back and forth to a laptop… if you’re looking for an app that can do just that try Snapseed - the best mobile editing software money can’t buy (it’s free).

You can watch a short video about how to use the software below (vertical format for viewing on a phone):

Cliff notes:

  1. Download and install the free app Snapseed from your app store

  2. Open an image from inside the app

  3. Use Looks menu if you want to view different filters (not my thing)

  4. Use the Tools menu for a powerful set of image editing tools

  5. Tune Image is my favorite (upper left menu item). Here you can adjust brightness, contrast, color, etc.

  6. Crop and Rotate allows you to adjust the framing and get rid of any tilt in the photo

  7. Portrait mode allows for skin smoothing, face brightness adjustment

  8. You can use the Brush tool for local/targeted adjustments to different areas of the image

  9. You can add Text to any image really easily with the Text tool

  10. Go to Export once you’re ready and make sure you save as a copy so you don’t alter your original image.
